Ms. Heredia wanted to create a mini library in her classroom that would increase students’ interest in literature while serving as an alternative space for healing and managing inappropriate behavior. The furniture, books, and art supplies provided serve to create a comfortable and safe place intended to nurture love of reading and self-reflection. The space also provides students who experience social-emotional issues their own positive space. Instead of sending students away, they spend time in this space to reflect on their emotions and actions by reading books and access art supplies for self-expression.
