Indiana L.I.F.T. Scholars Speak About College Experiences

On May 8, 2013 ten L.I.F.T. Scholars returned to Pike High School for the first “Conversation With L.I.F.T. Scholars”. Graduate Nicole Rios, senior Silvia Petkova, juniors Janetta Sykes and Quyen Ngo, sophomores Umara Khalid and Caroline Lawson, and freshman Taylor McCart, Fherryl Hannah, and Serenity Brumby took the stage for a panel discussion with Pike High School’s predominantly seniors.

Each scholar fielded questions from moderator Mrs. Kozlowski who had gathered questions from the attentive audience in advance on subjects ranging from every day college experiences to majors of study, from the hardest adjustments of college life to what they liked the best. Discussion was open to students’ spontaneous questions as well, with thought provoking conversations on following ones own dreams to overcoming challenges faced at a large campus and how to make a person as an individual find their place.

The event was a huge success, and plans will be made to have this to be an annual event. The L.I.F.T. Scholars are truly making a difference personally and in the lives of others every day.
