My name is Julie Gossard and I have been fortunate enough to be a LIFT grant recipient each year since the LIFT Foundation was formed. The LIFT Foundation has generously provided me with the opportunity to provide my College Park second grade students with Scholastic Reading Counts trophies and award medallions for their yearly reading progress. Each year my second grade class sets a reading goal of reading daily and then being able to successfully pass the corresponding Scholastic Reading Counts comprehension tests with a score of 90% or higher. This year my College Park second grade class set a record and read 1,945, 982 words and 1,902 books where comprehension tests were passed with a score of 90% or higher!
I also have appreciated the wonderful partnership with the LIFT Foundation. They have been very supportive of both myself and my second grade students! Since the LIFT Foundation began my second grade students have participated in the LIFT Goal program. My second grade students set personal academic goals in Language Arts and Math for the beginning, middle, and end of the school year as well as personal academic summer goals. The LIFT Foundation comes in and meets with my second grade students individually to discuss, encourage, motivate, and reward them for their individual academic progress. In addition, the LIFT Foundation provides my second grade students with the necessary educational tools that they might need to help them succeed at home. Throughout the years the LIFT Foundation has provided my second grade class with math flashcards, dictionaries, writing journals, and a vast variety of positive reinforcement incentives!
The LIFT Foundation is instrumental in ensuring that all participating students and classrooms achieve academic success! Mere thanks can not express my appreciation for their partnership with myself and my second grade students. To receive a LIFT Foundation grant is not like most typical educational grants. The LIFT Foundation particularly Bob and Susan Kozlowski become personally invested in nurturing and ensuring the students succeed and have high self-esteem and self-confidence as a bonus! The LIFT Foundation is like no other!
